RCA Shuts Down Jive and Arista Records

It looks like one record company has called it quits and will focus on one specific genre- rock. They admit to massive lay offs and cut backs in recent years and have to start reinventing their music company and this includes dissolving its labels.

The labels that served as the home to artists such as Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and R. Kelly are soon to be no more. Recently installed RCA Records CEO Peter Edge and President/COO Tom Corson officially announced the end of the legendary Arista and Jive Records. J Records, which was created by Clive Davis in 2000, is also done for. Read the full article here!

TIKISA Salsa at Nyumbani Lounge in Dar es salaam

TIKISA  dancers showcased their first public performance at Nyumbani Lounge (Lady JD's joint), Namanga, on Thursday 29th September...a few hours after we'd shot the 6th episode of TIKISA coming to your TV screens tonight at 10.20pm. Hopefully, we will have more PAs from these guys in the near future. Sauda, myself and one of their choreographers Bud Spencer, attended the small event. We're proud of the kids. They're doing really well. What a journey. What a transformation. I can see a bright future for these guys.

Juma lililo pita mashabiki wangu waliniomba awali niwapatia mabandana ya Joett... nikaona basi vizuri, wacha niwapatia vijana nawao wajimwage katika shoot ya TIKISA na brand yangu. Hii picha tulipigwa mara baaba ya shoot ya show ya wiki ilio pita. Washikaji wametoka poa sana, ama mnasemaje?

Kila niendako mitaani, mashabiki wananiomba t-shirt na bandana nao wavae. Kwahivyo basi, nimeamua nitaanza kutengeneza t-shirt na bandana ambazo zitapatikana madukani kwa bei poa tu. Zoezi hilo litakapo kamilika, nitawataarifu nyote mashabik wangu. Ahsanteni kwa kunifagilia kwa kasi sana. Tuko pamoja!

Chungu Kimechemka TIKISA: Madansa Wapandisha Gemu

Vijana wa TIKISA wanatisha.Wiki iliopita nilikua najiuliza, "hawa watu mbona wananichanganya?" Manake gemu limepanda hadi sisi majaji (Joett, QSK, Sauda Simba na Witness The Fitness) tuko confused. Hatujui pakugeukia. Madansa wamepamba moto kinoma. Lakini hatimae ilibidi kapo moja waage shindano la TIKISA. Michael  Kayebo, japo ni mkali, gemu na patna wake Joyce Beatus halikua juu yakutosha kubaki katika shindano hili. Lakini mimi ninaamini hawa wawili watafika mbali kati fani ya dansi. Huu ni mwanzo tu. Niliwahamasisha wasikate tamaa.

What Went On Inside TIKISA Shoot in Pictures

TIKISA is going well, I'm glad to say. I think its popularity is growing steadily week on week, and the dancers are getting better and better with every show. I am truly amazed and proud of these kids. Considering none of them had previous experience in salsa, rhumba and merenge ... this is impressive! I just want to share with you SOME images from last week's episode. There's one of me posing for the camera with fellow judges QSK (far left) and Sauda Simba. In another blog post today (the Swahili version), there's a group shot of ALL the contestants who participated in the competition last week... by which time three couples had already been eliminated from the competition. Sad to see them go, but this is, after all, a competition. Winner takes it all!


TIKISA THIS WEEK

We shot the next episode YESTERDAY. Loads of great fun. INCREDIBLE show. Our competitors have moved up yet another gear. You will be AMAZED. I know I was. The heat is on. "Chungu kimechemka!" Watch your TV screens this weekend, Saturday 10pm on ITV.

TIKISA "Let's Dance" Premiers On ITV

It has been a hectic few weeks. Dance, vocal coaching, creating a new radio show and much more besides. I haven't had time to blog. Bizarre. And now I'm sitting on the judge panel for the new dance competition show TIKISA "Let's Dance" on ITV, which premiered last night. Another 11 episodes to go... and filming each week. I enjoyed the show. There are some very talented kids on the show. I shall look forward to viewing the next installment this coming Saturday on ITV.

My critically acclaimed single "I Could Never Live (Without Your Love)" is being remixed into the 70s by my London producer Patrick Jonsson. It takes on a 70s disco beat reminiscent of the group Shalamar. I had to lay down new vocals to it last week (Saturday & Sunday)...for which I flew in my Nairobi producer Ken Kanyeria to come and record my voice. I like the outcome. The sound files are now in London for further production, mixing and mastering. I can't wait to re-release this single. Coming very soon. Watch this space!

Joett Dance into Shape Class Goes 70s Disco

Yesterday's dance-for-exercise class was my best ever! I decided to run 70s music by Shalamar and it simply worked wonders. Quite interesting how it happened because, you have no idea how many times I've carried that CD to the studio but didn't play it. Yesterday, I took nothing else...so I had to play it. It was all I had. And good job I did. It was an amazing class.

There's something about 70s music that has a beat and vibe SO good for dancing. Yesterday was bubbly, fluid, fun and not as rigorous as my other classes. How I move is inspired by the music itself. 70s music kinda slows me down, which gives me more room to maneuver and to effectively workout the entire body with a lot more flexibility moves thrown into the mix. They loved it! And so I'm sticking with the 70s from here on out. Welcome to my all new 70s Disco Dance Class!

Venue: Nanasi Studios, Oysterbay Shopping Center, Dar es salaam.
Schedule: Tuesdays 6pm, Thursdays 6pm and Saturdays 10am (advance bookings only for Saturday).
