Oscar-winner Michael Douglas, who completed chemotherapy for throat cancer last November, said of his wife CATHERINE Zeta-Jones that she never “complained” about being depressed.
The Welsh actress — who earlier this year spent time as an in-patient at the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut, to deal with Bipolar II disorder — didn’t admit her struggle to her spouse, who was suffering with throat cancer, but is now getting better. To find out more on this story read the article Catherine Zeta-Jones didn't complain about depression.
Douglas attributed the cancer to a combination of stress, his previous alcohol abuse, and years of heavy smoking. Which brings me to the main thrust of this blog post, and as a singer and vocal coach who advocates healthy living to preserve the throat, smoking and excessive drinking DOES affect the throat! Worst case scenario is a bout with cancer as a result of these excesses. Two weeks ago I lost a close family friend to throat cancer (no, she didn't smoke). I can only imagine what Catherine was going through as did the family of the deceased.
