Boogie has been on air for almost one year now. Amazing how time flies. And to celebrate, I've created a brand new ad campaign with models Dickson & Ashraf (signed to Joett Models), sporting Boogie t-shirts everybody wants to get their hands on. More on the where and how coming up soon.
This weekend on Times 100.5 FM from 6pm Sunday, I will run Greatest Hits by Chic & Sister Sledge -- The Remixes. Yes, you heard that right. ALL the hits remixed. The sound is amazing, the Boogie doesn't get any better than this. I'm really excited about this.
Expect some slamming 12" remixes of We Are family (Sister Sledge), I Want Your Love (Chic), Thinking Of You (Sister Sledge), Hangin' (Chic), Lost In Music (Sister Sledge), He's The Greatest Dancer (Sister Sledge), Good Times (Chic), Le Freak (Chic) plus a banging MEGACHIC medley remix by Chic. I tell ya, this Sunday will be extra special.
And in the weeks ahead, I'm toying with the idea of featuring Greatest Hits from Earth, Wind & Fire as well as that supergroup from the 70s -- Boney M. Oh, and there's MORE. Stay tuned to find out.
Be sure to tune in to Times 100.5 FM from 6pm Sunday East Africa Time, Or Listen live on stream at timesfm.co.tz For International listeners, view World Time Zone Map for current time in your area.

Singing Lessons: How You Breathe Is How You Sing Video Demo
G Fullah is a bongo flava artist signed to my record label -- Joett Music, as a solo artist. His debut single, currently in production, is scheduled for release in November 2012. In these vocal training exercises on my Advanced Program captured on video, pay attention to the way he uses his mouth to breathe before a note, and how he opens and spreads his mouth to scale a note. My point being, how you breathe is how you sing. I taught him well. So the next time you're puzzled as to why you're singing flat; puffing and panting; and not hitting your notes nice, clean and easy, take a closer look at your mouth! It's all in the breathing pattern. All you need to do is copy and paste that formula into your singing...and voila, you will be singing like a pro in no time.

Gladys Knight & The Pips Greatest Hits Feature On Boogie
On today’s show: we bring you a selection of disco, soul and R&B classics from the album The Greatest Hits Gladys Knight & The Pips including the massive James Bond theme song License to Kill. And in the Airtel sponsored 2nd hour of the show from 7pm, expect some groovy Nu Disco.
Gladys Knight & The Pips were an R&B/soul family musical act from Atlanta, Georgia, active from 1953 to 1989. The group was best known for their string of hit singles on Motown's "Soul" record label and Buddah Records from 1967 to 1975, including "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" (1967) and "Midnight Train to Georgia" (1973). The longest-lived incarnation of the act featured Gladys Knight on lead vocals, with The Pips, who included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and their cousins Edward Patten and William Guest, as backup singers.
Their biggest Motown hit was 1972's #1 R&B/ #2 pop hit "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)", which won the 1973 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance By A Duo, Group Or Chorus.
On the A&E Network television program Biography, Knight stated that she and the Pips were regarded as a second-string act, and that "Diana (Ross) & the Supremes, The Temptations, and Marvin Gaye were given all the hits, while we took the leftovers." In Knight's autobiography Between Each Line of Pain and Glory: My Life Story, she stated that Diana Ross had the group removed from being The Supremes' opening act on a 1968 tour for, according to Knight, being too good.
Many of Gladys Knight and the Pips' hits in the mid-1970s were written by country songwriter Jim Weatherly. Knight and the Pips charted with five of Weatherly's songs in 1973 and 1974: "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Neither One of Us," "Where Peaceful Waters Flow," "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," and "Between Her Goodbye and My Hello."
Gladys Knight & the Pips embarked on their final tour in 1988 and disbanded upon its conclusion, as Gladys Knight decided she wanted to pursue a solo career. The Pips retired, while Gladys Knight began scoring hits of her own with singles such as "Men" (1991) and "I Don't Want to Know" (1994).
The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation in 1998. Ms. Knight, now a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, continues to tour and record occasionally, and leads the Saints Unified Voices choir. Edward Patten of the Pips died in February 2005, of complications from his long bout with diabetes.
Gladys Knight & the Pips are ranked as the ninth most successful act in The Billboard Top 40 Book of R&B and Hip-Hop Hits (2005). They were also ranked #91 on VH1's Top 100 Artists of Rock n' Roll. In June 2006, Gladys Knight & the Pips were inducted into the Apollo Theater's Hall Of Fame in New York City.
In 2007, The Pips appeared in a commercial for the auto insurance company Geico. As Edward Patten had died two years prior, one of Gladys Knight's current backing singers, Neil Taffe, accompanied the remaining Pips.

Chaka Khan "I Feel for You" Album Features On Boogie
On today’s show we feature the fifth and final installment of the Chaka Khan 5 album series. The series is now in its fifth week, and today we present the album I Feel For You—the fifth solo album by American R&B/funk singer Chaka Khan, released on the Warner Bros. Records label in 1984. Also coming up in the Airtel-sponsored second hour of the show we’ll bring you BOOGIE YOU SELECT where YOU get to select 80s groove n’ soul tracks you want me to play. To select your favorite tracks, stand by for alternative playlist coming up at the top of the hour at 7pm. Excellent from start to finish, this album went down in history as both a creative and a commercial success.
After having balanced her two simultaneous careers as a member of the band Rufus and a solo performer during the years 1978 to 1983, which culminated with the release of the final Rufus & Chaka Khan album Stompin' at the Savoy - Live after which the band dissolved, Khan recorded the album that was to make her a pop star with mainstream chart success; 1984's "I Feel for You".
The title track, "I Feel for You" was a sample-heavy cover of a 1979 Prince track, featuring Grandmaster Melle Mel on the classic Ch-ch-ch-chaka-chaka-chaka Khan rap intro and Stevie Wonder on harmonica (and also a sample from one of his first hits, "Fingertips") and saw Khan embracing high-tech funk, rap and hip hop and stands as one of her best known songs and her biggest commercial hit, reaching #3 on the US Pop Chart (and becoming Billboard's #5 song of the year in 1985), and was #1 US R&B, Dance, and UK singles. The song earned her a second Grammy Award in 1985 for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female.
The album reached #16 on Billboard's Album Chart, #4 R&B and #15 in the UK. Additional hit singles were "This Is My Night" (US #60, R&B #11, Dance #1, UK #14), "Eye To Eye" (UK #16 ) and the ballad "Through The Fire," which reached the US R&B top ten (#15), setting a then-record for most consecutive weeks on the Billboard R&B chart. "Through the Fire" also rose to #60 on the US Pop chart during a 19-week run on the Hot 100, and crossed over to the adult contemporary chart (#16) and charted at #77 in the UK. The I Feel for You album's second ballad, "Stronger Than Before" co-written by Burt Bacharach, Bruce Roberts and Carole Bayer Sager, was released as the fifth single in certain markets.
"I Feel for You", "This Is My Night" and "Eye To Eye" were released as extended 12" remixes in 1984, and other mixes were created for the 1989 remix compilation Life is a Dance - The Remix Project. The 1984 mixes by Arif Mardin and Russ Titelman remain unreleased on CD.
1985 saw two other songs by Khan released on other albums: "(Krush Groove) Can't Stop The Street" from the Krush Groove soundtrack (US R&B #18, UK #80), and "Own The Night", from the Miami Vice soundtrack (US Pop #57, US R&B #66).

Chaka Khan's Fourth Solo Album Hits Boogie
On today’s show we feature the fourth installment of the Chaka Khan 5 album series. The series is now in its fourth week, and today we present the album Chaka Khan—the fourth solo album by American R&B/funk singer Chaka Khan, released on the Warner Bros. Records label in 1982. Also coming up in the Airtel-sponsored second hour of the show we’ll bring you BOOGIE YOU SELECT where YOU get to select 80s groove n’ soul tracks you want me to play.
Chaka Khan is the eponymous fourth solo album. An excellent album from Chaka Khan, mixing tingling up-tempo tunes with her characteristic soaring, glorious vocals. "Got to Be There" reached number five on the R&B charts, but it actually wasn't the album's high point. That was the marvelous "Be Bop Medley," which later led hardcore jazz purist Betty Carter to proclaim Khan the one female singer working outside the jazz arena with legitimate improvising credentials.
Two singles were released from Chaka Khan: the Michael Jackson cover "Got to Be There" (US Pop #67, US R&B #5) and "Tearin' It Up" (US R&B #48), the latter also as a 12" single including an extended remix (- 7:21) as well as an instrumental version (- 8:07), both mixed by Larry Levan and included on Warner Music Japan's 1999 compilation Dance Classics of Chaka Khan. The album track "Slow Dancin'" was a funky ballad duet with the late Rick James. On Billboard's charts, the album reached #5 on Black Albums and #52 on Pop Albums. The "Bebop Medley" won producer Arif Mardin and Khan a Grammy Award in 1984 in the Best Vocal Arrangement For Two Or More Voices category.
Following the release of the Chaka Khan album and the greatest hits package The Very Best of Rufus featuring Chaka Khan later that same year Khan reunited with the band Rufus for one final album together, the double live/studio set Stompin' at the Savoy - Live (1983). Her next solo album I Feel for You -- which I will be featuring on Boogie next Sunday-- followed in 1984.
Despite its many accolades and artistic achievements the Chaka Khan album remained unreleased on CD in both the United States and Europe, and was only available as an import from Japan, until it was finally issued on CD in the UK in 2010 as part of a Five disc set containing Khan's first five solo albums.

Chaka Khan's What Cha' Gonna Do for Me Album On Boogie
On Boogie this Sunday, we feature the third installment of the Chaka Khan 5 album series. The series is now in its third week, and this time we present the album What Cha' Gonna Do for Me—the third solo album by American R&B/funk singer Chaka Khan, released on the Warner Bros. Records label in 1981. Also coming up in the Airtel-sponsored second hour of the show we’ll bring you BOOGIE YOU SELECT where YOU select tracks you want me to play. Stand by for alternative playlist on the day, to select your favorite tracks.
What Cha' Gonna Do for Me is the Gold certified third solo album by Chaka Khan. Teaming again with Arif Mardin, slowly but surely the two began to craft an even more successful and innovative sound. This effort not only bests the work before it, but it is Mardin's most fulfilling production since 1974's Average White Band.
Three singles were released from What Cha' Gonna Do: the Beatles cover "We Can Work It Out" (US R&B #34), the McCrarys cover "Any Old Sunday" (#68) and the album's title track which became a number one hit on Billboard R&B Singles chart. On Billboard's charts, the album reached #3 on Black Albums, #33 on Jazz Albums, and #17 on Pop Albums. This would be Chaka's highest charting album until her 80's-era breakthrough I Feel For You. Its popularity among jazz audiences was likely due to the inclusion of the Dizzy Gillespie composition "Night In Tunisia" with a guest appearance by Gillespie himself as well as what today would be called a 'sample' of Charlie Parker's legendary four bar alto break from his 1946 recording of the title. Khan's vocal interpretation also features lyrics written by the singer herself. This album was nominated for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female in 1981.
Two tracks from the What Cha Gonna Do For Me sessions were only released as B-sides of singles; "Only Once" and "Lover's Touch", both remain unreleased on CD.
The instrumental intro to "Fate" has been sampled by a host of dance acts all through the 1990s and 2000s, most notably by Stardust on their 1998 hit single "Music Sounds Better With You" and a section of "I Know You I Live You" also features on "Bad Habit" by Onephatdeeva feat. Lisa Milett.
For reasons unknown, What Cha' Gonna Do For Me has only been re-issued on CD in both Europe and Japan. The album has yet to see a CD release in the United States, but did become domestically available digitally shortly after Khan won multiple Grammy awards for her 2007 album Funk This.
Coming up NEXT Sunday is the album Chaka Khan. The eponymous fourth solo album by American R&B/funk singer Chaka Khan, released on the Warner Bros. Records label in 1982.
